Swedish film director Roy Andersson did about 400 commercials and only 6 movies during his career. We can see how younger directors such as Todd Solondz, Miranda July... have been influenced by his universe. He never studied cinema but art and history. He took inspiration from Pieter Brueghel (1525-1569), scenes in George Grosz's caricatural paintings (1893-1959), the great Otto Dix (1891-1969) and many others...
The absurdity of man resonates in his tales and responds more than ever to a time which loses all meaning !
